Abstract

Deng Xiaoping's ideas about whether we should oppose "the Left deviation" or guard against the right deviation should be fully and accurately understood and grasped.Deng Xiaoping proposed that we should guard against the right deviation but mainly "the Left" deviation in his address in the south, which has its pertinency then. This judgement can't be understood unilaterally and inflexibly beyond history. It should be grasped in combination with the dissertation and practice since the reform and openning up that we oppose "the Left" when "the Left" deviation exists and we oppose the right when the right deviation exists. In "opposing and guarding against the Left","the Left" is with quotation marks, which means the extremely left.It should not be varied to opposing the pregressive and revolutionary left and opposing the left with the right. Some scholars oppose Liu Guoguang's judgement that the present deviation is mainly the right, which is irrelevant to the subject and unreasonable.
